Apple Files Lawsuit Against Oppo Over Alleged Technology Theft
Apple has initiated legal proceedings against Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo, alleging the theft of proprietary health-sensing technology. The complaint, filed in federal court in San Jose, centers on former Apple engineer Chen Shi, who allegedly accessed confidential materials related to the company's wearable devices program before joining Oppo.
According to court documents, Shi attended dozens of technical meetings with Apple Watch team members while concealing his impending employment with the competitor. The filing details how Shi downloaded 63 restricted documents to a USB drive just days before his departure in June. Apple claims these actions were taken to benefit Oppo's competing product development.
This lawsuit continues Apple's aggressive protection of intellectual property. The company has previously prosecuted former employees from its discontinued autonomous vehicle project for similar offenses. Apple remains engaged in ongoing litigation with Masimo Corp. regarding smartwatch technology since 2020.
